Chiquita Brands International, Inc. (?CBII?) and its subsidiaries (collectively,
?Chiquita? or the company) operate as a leading international marketer and
distributor of bananas and other fresh produce sold under the ?Chiquita? and
other brand names in more than 70 countries and of packaged salads sold under
the ?Fresh Express? and other brand names primarily in the United States. The
company produces approximately one-third of the bananas it markets on its own
farms, and purchases the remainder of the bananas and all of the lettuce and
other fresh produce from third-party suppliers throughout the world.
Recent events in 2007 and early 2008 have improved Chiquita?s balance sheet and
are expected to decrease its risk profile in the face of increasing industry
costs and other challenges.
